Calculation Summary

How Crop Profit Is Calculated

Every figure above comes from the numbers you entered. Here is what each one means in plain language.

Gross Revenue

What the harvest is worth before any costs are taken off. If your yield is entered per land unit, it is multiplied by your farm size first to get the total harvest.

Total yield × selling price

Total Cost

Everything you spend on this crop for the season, added into a single figure you can weigh against revenue.

Seeds + fertilizer + labor + irrigation + machinery + pesticides + other

Net Profit

What is left once the season’s costs are subtracted from revenue. A negative figure means the crop runs at a loss on these numbers.

Gross revenue − total cost

Return on Investment

How hard your spending worked, shown as a percentage. It needs a cost above zero to be meaningful, so it is not shown when no costs are entered.

(Net profit ÷ total cost) × 100

Profit per Land Unit

Profit spread across your area, which makes two fields or two crops of different sizes directly comparable.

Net profit ÷ farm size

Break-even Selling Price

The lowest price per unit of harvest that still covers your costs. Sell above it and the crop makes a profit; sell below it and it does not.

Total cost ÷ total yield
